If you’re trying to pinpoint the type of wedding menu you’d like, we look at Buffet vs Sit Down vs Cocktail in our latest blog.
At Glengariff, we pride ourselves on great service and delicious meals – no matter what type of celebration you decide on.
Plus, we always have plenty of food and drinks available for you and your guests, and lots of professional staff on hand to ensure you enjoy and relax on your wedding day.
Menu options at our Brisbane Wedding Venue
We have three menu options at Glengariff, which are available for both lunchtime weddings and afternoon/evening weddings:
- Sit Down, also called alternate drop,
- Cocktail Soiree
All menus include pre-dinner drinks and canapes for at least one hour, as well as entrees, mains, dessert and supper.
*Please note we can cater to all dietary requirements at no extra cost.
Cocktail Style Wedding Reception
For couples who are after more of a laid-back wedding style with lots of guests mingling and not a full sit-down menu option but instead would like canapes style menu, then the cocktail soiree wedding style is perfect for you. All canapes are served on silver trays by Glengariff staff of an array of handmade hot and cold canapes, continuously served throughout your wedding plus an assortment bowl dishes.
If you pick this style, you can mingling with guests a lot sooner rather than later as with a sit down style menu, you have to wait for the formalities of entrees and mains to be served and cleared before starting the party time. If this sounds like what you are wanting then this is the menu for you. Just imagine…. mingling, feasting, drinking and starting your party celebrations and dancing earlier.
The cocktail soiree menu includes:
- Continuous hot and cold canapes throughout your reception,
- 3 bowl dishes for dinner celebrations (1 at lunch time weddings),
- Your wedding cake served as dessert,
- Supper includes a fruit and cheese platter, a glass of port, and chocolates with tea and coffee.
Unlike other venues, Glengariff does not cap the number of pieces of finger food per person. Our canapes are also unlimited throughout the evening with three bowl dishes and we can ensure you there is plenty of food and no one will go home hungry.
Buffet Style Wedding Reception
If you are wanting a sit-down wedding you have two menu options: buffet or alternate drop.
Our buffet menu is very popular and while still a formal style, it tends to be more casual than an alternate drop event.
A buffet is a very interactive style of reception for guests, and they have more choice when it comes to food with lots of variety and covers all dietary requirements in one go.
The buffet menu includes:
- An hour of canapes on the Terrace after the ceremony,
- Mains including cold dishes, home-made salads, and hot dishes consisting of 2 roasts,
- Dessert includes wedding cake plus a desert station with our chef’s delicious homemade desserts.
The buffet is presented and served on our amazing marble and gold buffet unit.
All guests are also able to meet and greet the chef as he calves the roasts and your maître’d will bring up each table at a time. We have created a smooth concept of running our buffets and have no long lines to wait in plus the bonus of your guests getting to choose what they would like to eat from the buffet as there is something for everyone.

Alternate Drop Wedding Reception
Our alternate drop menu (also called sit down) is considered the most formal reception style.
During this kind of event, your chosen menu options are alternately dropped to your guests who are seated at the tables and chosen prior to your wedding day at your final meeting.
All meals are handmade and prepared onsite and we cater to all dietary requirements.
This menu includes 6 courses (4 for lunchtime weddings). Portions are large sizes too, so no one will ever go home hungry.
Our alternate drop menu includes:
- An hour of drinks and canapes on the Terrace after ceremony,
- Entrées (alternatively dropped),
- Mains (alternatively dropped),
- Your wedding cake served as dessert,
- Supper includes a fruit and cheese platter, and chocolates with tea and coffee.
